“Seeing his son again was more important to him than the wrong things his son had done.”. I have probably misquoted slightly but that was the gist of a comment, made by a girl in year 4, about the moment the father sees the son in the parable of the Prodigal son. I found it an incredible comment and one that may give you a hint as to why I find the work I am involved with such a huge privilege!” Guy Cooke

Huddersfield Scripture Union Partnership (HSUP) was formed in 2002, with help from Scripture Union, for the development and support of Christian youth work in schools and colleges.
The ministry began officially in September 2002, when two youth leaders went to gain experience and training in Schools Work for a year. The following year they came back to Huddersfield and began work in our local schools with local volunteers and Gap year students.
It is our hope that we can expand the network of church, schools and youth workers across our town, so that the church in Huddersfield can come together to serve our schools and places of education.

Some of the weekly activities that HSUP is directly linked with
Monday - RE lessons at St Thomas (CE) Primary School.
Dave Hewitt - from St. Thomas Bradley - and myself took a series of RE sessions for year 3 and 4 at Bradley Juniors. The children listened really well and came out with some great answers in the discussion times!
Now Bradley Juniors has merged with Bradley Infant and Nursery School to become St. Thomas (CE) Primary School. Dave and I led a year 2 RE session last year at St Thomas and have run year 3 and year 4 RE sessions so far this term.
Tuesday – Rock Solid lunch club at Rastrick High School with CICS (the Calderdale schools team)
It has been great to team up with CICS in running Rock Solid at Rastrick High School. Tony Buck - from CICS - and myself were leading the group this past year, with Esther Woolcock taking over from Tony in the summer term. We talked about a range of different subjects and finished with a Christianity Explored course aimed at young people.
We had a very consistent group this past year, which continued from the year before. This means we have got to know the pupils well.
Tuesday – Pulse after school club at Newsome High School and Sports College
Dan Wood - from New North Road Baptist Church - comes into Newsome on a Tuesday afternoon. The school continues to be very welcoming to us. We run a drop-in after-school club called Pulse. The club includes PS2s, pool tables, quizzes, air hockey or table football and other activities. It is something for pupils to enjoy after school and runs for an hour.

Wednesday – Wotsit lunch club at Salendine Nook High School
Alison Lloyd -from Community Church and Dan Wood – from New North Road Baptist Church - come into Salendine Nook to run Wotsit lunch club. It has been great that Dan is now coming in and that the club can continue to run.
We are, currently, looking at sessions from a course called Youth Emmaus 2. The material looks at the Sermon on the Mount and wroship.
Pupils are planning to run a bun sale at the end of term. It is brilliant to see them working together on this and showing such enthusiasm!
Thursday - Extreme lunch club at Honley High School
Andy Pearsons - from Elim Church - and Mary - from Elim Honley Church - come into Honley High School.
Last year year we looked at a number of biographies of Christians - some more well known than others. They included Jackie Pullinger, Kaka, William Wilberforce and William Tyndale.
This year we have been looking at what the Bible says about God, with titles including Creator God, Loving God, Just God and True God. This is in response to wuestions and ideas put forward by pupils.
